Google has updated its hardware support page with information on the dates till which consumers can expect end of life updates on their Pixel phones. Google has guaranteed Android OS support till October 2018, and security patches will continue to roll out till October 2019. This means that the debut Pixel devices will receive OS support for two years, and security updates for three years.

The dates are the same for both the Pixel and the larger Pixel XL devices. The Android version used in the Pixel devices are “vanilla” OS versions, that receive software updates directly from Google. The last Android OS that is expected to land for the Pixel devices is the as yet unnamed Android P.

The dates are not absolute indications of when the updates will stop rolling out. Google has indicated that it cannot guarantee the availability of updates beyond two years for OS versions, and beyond three years for security patches, after the release of the device. Google has also guaranteed security updates for eighteen months after the device stops selling in the Google store. The software updates typically reach the device within two weeks of rolling out.
